Agogo Oil Field Profile
Location and Geology
- The Agogo oil field is located in Block 15/06, offshore Angola, approximately 180km off the coast and 20km west of the N’Goma FPSO in the West Hub production area.
- The field is situated in a water depth of around 1,700 meters, with the reservoirs located more than 4,000 meters beneath the seabed in Lower Miocene sandstones within a sub-salt diapirs setting.
Discovery and Appraisal
- The Agogo oil field was discovered in March 2019 by the Agogo-1 new field wildcat well, drilled to a total depth of 4,450 meters. The well encountered a single oil column of approximately 203 meters, including 120 meters of net pay of high-quality oil with 31° API.
- The first appraisal well, Agogo-2, was drilled in July 2019, approximately 3km northwest of the Agogo-1 well, confirming the presence of about 650 million barrels of light oil in place.
- A second appraisal well, Agogo-3, was drilled in February 2020, approximately 1.5km northwest of the Agogo-2 well, increasing the field’s total oil in place estimation to around one billion barrels.
Production
- Production at the Agogo oil field started in January 2020, just nine months after its discovery, with an initial rate of around 10,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd). The production is expected to increase to 20,000 bopd.
- The field is currently tied back to the existing N’Goma FPSO, which has a processing capacity of approximately 100,000 barrels of oil and 115 million cubic feet (Mcf) of gas per day, along with a water injection capacity of 120,000 barrels per day.
Future Development
- The Agogo Integrated West Hub development project aims to fully develop the field and the nearby Ndungu field. This project includes the use of both the existing N’Goma FPSO and a new Agogo FPSO, which will have an oil processing capacity of 120,000 bopd, a gas injection capacity of 230 million standard cubic feet per day (Mmscf/d), and a water injection capacity of 120,000 bpd. The new FPSO is expected to be operational from mid-2026 and will help achieve a peak production of 175,000 bopd.
- The project involves drilling 36 new wells (21 production wells and 15 injection wells) and the installation of approximately 100 km of rigid flowlines, 100 km of flexible flowlines, and 100 km of umbilicals.
Partners and Contractors
- The project is operated by Eni Angola, a subsidiary of Azule Energy, which is a joint venture between BP and Eni. Eni holds a 36.84% working interest, while Sonangol P&P also holds 36.84%, and SSI Fifteen holds 26.32%.
- Several contractors have been involved in the project, including Saipem for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of risers, production flowlines, and subsea structures; Yinson for FPSO and field operations and maintenance; Baker Hughes for subsea production system and aftermarket services; Aker Solutions for umbilical systems; Subsea 7 for risers, flowlines, and subsea structures; and TechnipFMC for risers and flowlines.
Infrastructure and Operational Strategy
- The swift startup of the Agogo field was facilitated by its proximity to the existing N’Goma FPSO, allowing for operational synergies and a fast-track development model. This approach maximizes project value by leveraging existing infrastructure and includes an early production stage followed by full field development.
Block 15/06 Context
- Block 15/06 has been a prolific area with multiple discoveries, including the West Hub and East Hub projects. These projects have led to the development of eight producing fields with 42 subsea wells, producing over 160,000 bopd and a cumulative total of approximately 180 million barrels of oil by the end of 2019.
- Recent discoveries in the block, including Agidigbo, Kalimba, Afoxé, Agogo, and Ndungu, are estimated to contain about 2 billion barrels of oil in place, doubling the previous discoveries in the area.
