Al Bunduq

Location

The field is situated offshore, approximately 200km west of Abu Dhabi city and 100km east of Doha, on the border between the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the State of Qatar. The exact coordinates are 25.126, 52.6091 (WGS 84).

Operator and Ownership

The Al Bunduq Oil and Gas Field is operated by Bunduq Company Limited. The field is owned by Cosmo Energy Exploration & Production and JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration, although earlier sources indicate it was under the United Petroleum Development Company Limited (100.0% ownership) before any changes in ownership.

History and Development

• The field was discovered in 1965.
• Bunduq Company Limited was established in December 1970 specifically to develop the El Bunduq oil field.
• Commercial oil production commenced in 1975 using a natural depletion scheme. Water injection was implemented from 1983 to maintain reservoir pressure.

Production

• The field has been in production since 1975 and has recovered a significant portion of its total recoverable reserves. Peak production was approximately 136.9 thousand barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil and condensate in 1970.
• As of recent years, the field's production includes:
  • Gas production: 403.09 million m³ per year (2019).
  • Oil production: 3.95 million barrels per year (2019), increasing to 4.3 million barrels per year (2020), and then to 4.15 million barrels per year (2021).

Reserves and Production Life

• The field has recovered 97.18% to 99.06% of its total recoverable reserves, depending on the source.
• Based on economic assumptions, production is expected to continue until the field reaches its economic limit, projected to be around 2025 or 2027.

Field Characteristics

• The field is located in shallow water with a depth of approximately 75 feet.
• It is part of the block El Bunduq or UPD Concession (El Bunduq).

Current Status and Future Plans

• The field is currently operating, with ongoing production activities.
