Angelin
- Type: Rig
- field
- Latitude: 10.3930000
- Longitude: -60.5890000
Location and Geology
- The Angelin gas field is situated in the northern Columbus Basin, approximately 25 miles (40 km) off the southeastern coast of Trinidad and Tobago, at a water depth of about 65 meters (213 feet).
Discovery and Reserves
- The field was discovered in 1995 with the drilling of the El Diablo well. It was further appraised in 2006 with the drilling of the La Novia well. BP conducted an Ocean Bottom Cable (OBC) seismic campaign in 2012 and 2013 to better understand the field's geology, which also led to the discovery of the Savannah and Macadamia prospects.
- The Angelin field is estimated to contain 1.5 trillion cubic feet of gas.
Development and Infrastructure
- The project was sanctioned by BPTT in June 2017, following the execution of a gas sales agreement with Trinidad’s National Gas Company. Construction began in the third quarter of 2017, and drilling of the production wells started in 2018.
- The development involves a normally unmanned installation (NUI) facility with a production capacity of 600 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd) or 109,000 barrels of oil-equivalent per day.
- The NUI includes a six-slot wellhead platform with a four-deck topside weighing 1,323 tons and a four-legged main pile jacket weighing 992 tons. The platform features a 26.37-inch riser and two 26-inch tie-in flexible spools connecting to the existing Serrette facility and a new wye skid at Angelin.
Production and Transmission
- The project includes four production wells drilled to depths ranging between 2,500 meters and 4,000 meters. One well produces from a single reservoir, while the remaining three wells produce from two reservoirs.
- The produced gas and fluids are transported via a 21-kilometer, 26-inch diameter export pipeline to the Serrette platform and then to the Cassia B platform for processing. The processed gas is further transported to BPTT’s Beachfield / Atlantic LNG facility, while the liquids are exported to the Galeota terminal through an existing pipeline network.
Contractors and Services
- McDermott International was awarded the contract for pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed engineering, as well as the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCI) of the facilities. The installation work was conducted using McDermott’s DLV 2000 derrick lay vessel.
- Frames Group was subcontracted by McDermott to provide a wellhead control panel and a chemical injection unit.
- Honeywell was awarded a Multiple Awards Contract (MAC) for the project, and Add Energy developed a full asset maintenance build program for the project.
Production Milestones
- First gas production from the Angelin field was achieved in February 2019. The project is expected to boost national gas production and improve gas security in the region.
Investment and Future Plans
- The Angelin project is BPTT’s second-largest investment in the region after the Juniper project, with an estimated cost of $800 million. The project is part of BPTT’s broader investment plan valued at approximately $5 billion to $6 billion over five years through 2021.
