Location

The B11 gas field is situated approximately 170 kilometers to the north of Bintulu, in the Central Luconia geological province of Malaysia.

Operator and Partners

The operator of the B11 field is Sarawak Shell Berhad (SSB), with Petronas holding a 50% partnership in the project.

Discovery and Production

• The B11 gas field was discovered in 1980.
• The field began production in 2003, marking the first gas production from this site.

Infrastructure

• The surface facilities of the B11 complex include three bridge-linked platforms:
  • A 9-slot combined drilling/riser platform (B11DR-A).
  • A production platform (B11P-A).
  • A future compression platform (B11K-A), which was installed in 2009 and is bridge-linked to the B11P-A platform.

Production Capacity

• The platform is designed with a capacity for 600 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d) measured at GMS (Gas Measurement System).

Tied-In Fields

• The B12 field is tied back to the B11 complex.
• The PC-4 field was developed with unmanned platforms and is also tied back to the B11 complex.

Contractors and Services

• Detailed design of the B11P-A platform was conducted by MMC.
• MMHE was responsible for the B11K-A platform and topsides.
• Emtunga provided the living quarter modules.

Purpose

The primary purpose of the B11 field is to supply gas to the MLNG-DUA project in Bintulu, which is part of the larger Malaysian LNG complex. This complex is one of the world's largest LNG production facilities, with significant exports to utilities in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

Geology and Reserves
