AI Project by Dragon Oil

Recently, Dragon Oil, a company owned by the Government of Dubai, launched an artificial intelligence (AI) project aimed at developing the Morgan and Badri oil fields. This project is designed to enhance productivity, extend the lifespan of the fields, and improve operational efficiency and environmental sustainability. The initiative includes training sessions for over 50 engineers and geoscientists to equip them with the latest AI technologies specialized in oil field development.

Previous Studies and Research

Several studies have been conducted on the Badri field to understand its reservoir characteristics, hydrocarbon potential, and optimal production methods. These include:

• Petrophysical and petrographic evaluations of the Sidri Member of the Belayim Formation.
• Geomechanical modeling and pore and fracture pressure modeling to optimize drilling and production operations.
• Integrated petrophysical and lithofacies studies to better understand the lower-middle Miocene reservoirs.
• Simulation techniques to estimate hydrocarbon types in untested members of the Belayim Formation.

Collaboration and Industry Engagement

The development of the Badri field involves collaboration between various stakeholders, including Dragon Oil, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), and other local and international oil companies. The AI project launch ceremony, for instance, was attended by officials from Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, EGPC, and representatives from local and international oil companies.

Training and Capacity Building

As part of the AI project, Dragon Oil conducted four days of training sessions for engineers and geoscientists to equip them with cutting-edge AI skills. This training is part of a broader effort to support the Egyptian petroleum industry and develop young talent.
