Location and Geology

The Barracuda conventional oil field is located in the deep waters of the Campos basin, off the southeastern coast of Brazil. Specifically, it is situated in block BR (Barracuda) with a water depth of 3,451 feet.

Ownership and Operation

The field is owned and operated by Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras), an integrated oil and gas company headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Petrobras is a major crude oil producer and refiner in Brazil and the South American continent.

Production History and Current Status

The Barracuda conventional oil field has been in production and has recovered approximately 80.97% of its total recoverable reserves. The field reached its peak production in 2006. Based on economic assumptions, production is expected to continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2043. Currently, the field accounts for about 1% of Brazil's daily oil output.

Revitalization Project

There is an ongoing feasibility study for the Barracuda Revitalization Project, which includes the installation of a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Unit (FPSO) to revitalize both the Barracuda and Caratinga fields. This project is expected to start in 2028.
