Bongkot South Oil and Gas Field Profile

Location

The Bongkot South Oil and Gas Field is located in the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 200 km east of Songkhla. It is situated within blocks G12/48, although some sources also mention blocks B16 and B17 in the context of the broader Bongkot complex.

Water Depth and Geography

The field is in shallow water, with a water depth of about 253 feet.

Ownership and Operation

The Bongkot South field is operated by PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), a subsidiary of PTT Public Co Ltd. The ownership is shared among:

• PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP): 44.45%
• TotalEnergies E&P Thailand: 33.33%
• BG Group: 22.22%.

Discovery and Production

• Discovery Year: 2004.
• Production Start: The field began production in April 2012.
• Initial Production: The initial production was 14,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Production Capacity and Facilities

• The field has a processing capacity of 350 million cubic feet of gas and 15,000 barrels of condensate per day.
• The facilities include the Wellhead Platform South (WPS), the Flare Platform South (FPS), the Quarter Platform South (QPS), and the Processing Platform South (PPS). The Processing Platform South includes various units such as production separation, CO2 removal, gas compressor units, and condensate stabiliser units.

Reserves

• Gas Reserves: As of 2019, the field had 1P reserves of 9,853.32 million cubic meters of gas, and as of 2021, this was updated to 3,730.99 million cubic meters.
• Condensate Reserves: As of 2019, the field had 1P reserves of 10.05 million barrels of condensate, and as of 2021, this was updated to 3.9 million barrels.

Production History

• Peak Production: The field reached its peak production in 2017, with a production rate of 3.97 million barrels of oil per year.
• Cumulative Production: By 2019, the cumulative production was 29.83 million barrels of condensate and 24,756.05 million cubic meters of gas. By 2021, this increased to 36.57 million barrels of condensate and 31,287.84 million cubic meters of gas.

Economic Projections

• The field is expected to continue production until it reaches its economic limit in 2044, having recovered 51.24% of its total recoverable reserves as of the last reported data.

Contribution to National Output

• The Bongkot South field currently accounts for approximately 9% of Thailand’s daily gas output.

Development History

• The development of the field began with a feasibility study in 2004. Construction started after four years, and the test run on the processing facility was completed in March 2012.

Contractors Involved

• Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) was awarded a turnkey contract for the engineering, procurement, installation, and construction of the gas process platform, jacket, flare tower, and three bridges. PT Gunanusa constructed the quarter platform in Indonesia.
