Cabaça South East Oil Field Profile

Location

The Cabaça South East Oil Field is located offshore Angola, specifically within Block 15/06, approximately 350 kilometers north-east of Luanda.

Coordinates

The field is situated at coordinates -6.1222, 11.3608 (WGS 84).

Water Depth

The field is developed in water depths of around 470 meters.

Discovery and Development

  • The Cabaça South East discovery was made in July 2010 with the drilling of the Cabaça South East-1 well. The well encountered oil-bearing reservoirs of the Miocene age, with a total gross thickness of 450 meters.
  • Further appraisal was conducted in September 2010 with the Cabaça South East-2 well, which flowed high-quality 34° API oil at rates of approximately 7,000 barrels per day (bpd), increasing the initial estimate of the discovery’s reserves by at least 30%.

Project Details

  • The Cabaça South East Oil Field is part of the East Hub Development Project, which also includes the Cabaça North and Cabaça Central UM8 fields.
  • Eni S.P.A. operates the Block 15/06 with a 35% interest. Other stakeholders include Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção (15%), SSI Fifteen Limited (20%), TotalEnergies (15%), and other minor stakeholders (15%).
  • The final investment decision for the project was approved by Eni in November 2013. Major contracts were awarded in 2014 and early 2015.

Production

  • First production from the Cabaça South East field began in February 2017.
  • The field is connected to the Armada Olombendo Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, which has a zero-discharge and zero-process flaring capability with an overall capacity of 100,000 bpd.
  • The field produces oil through ten subsea wells, with six producing and five injecting wells linked to the FPSO.
  • Production from the field was reported at 19.71 million barrels per year in 2019.

Reserves

  • The combined oil reserves of the Cabaça South East and Cabaça North discoveries are estimated at approximately 230 million barrels.

Peak Production

  • The East Hub project, including Cabaça South East, is expected to achieve a peak production capacity of approximately 17,000 bpd net.

Infrastructure

  • The development involves the use of subsea wells and infrastructure. The project includes the drilling of subsea wells and their tie-back to the FPSO vessel.

Contractors and Suppliers

  • Contracts for the project include the chartering, operation, and maintenance of the FPSO awarded to a consortium involving Bumi Armada Offshore Holdings and Angoil Bumi JV. Keppel Shipyard performed the FPSO conversion works, and Dynamac fabricated the topside modules. FMC Technologies supplied the subsea production systems.
