Corallita

  • Type: Rig
  • field
  • Latitude: 10.0780000
  • Longitude: -60.2220000

Location

The Corallita gas field is located in the East Mayaro Block (Block EM) off the south-east coast of Trinidad and Tobago, approximately 50 miles (80.4 kilometers) offshore.

Water Depth

The field is situated in water depths between 330 feet and 360 feet.

Ownership and Operation

The Corallita and Lantana gas fields are owned by BP Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT).

Discovery and Reserves

The Corallita and Lantana gas fields were discovered in 1996 and are part of the prolific Columbus basin. The total reserves of the Juniper project, which includes both fields, are estimated to be 1 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas.

Development and Infrastructure

  • The development of the Juniper offshore gas project involves the drilling of five subsea wells, with three in the Corallita field and two in the Lantana field. These wells will be tied into a new normally unmanned platform that will gather gas from both fields.
  • The subsea production system includes five multiphase flexible flow lines, an umbilical line, flying leads, and control equipment. The subsea production capacity is 590 million metric standard cubic feet a day (MMscfd) of natural gas and 2,500 barrels a day of condensate.

Drilling and Installation

  • Drilling was scheduled to begin in May 2015 using the semi-submersible drilling rig Ocean Victory, which is capable of drilling to a maximum depth of 25,000 feet in water depths of up to 6,000 feet.
  • The normally unmanned platform at Juniper includes a 4,300-ton topside and a 6,100-ton jacket. The platform was fabricated at LABIDCO Industrial Estate in Trinidad, and offshore installation was scheduled to begin in the second half of 2016.

Processing and Transportation

  • The gas gathered on the Juniper platform is transferred to the Mahogany B hub through a newly constructed 10km-long flow line for processing. The offshore connection is established via a subsea piggable wye tie-in near the base of the Mahogany B platform.
  • Brownfield modifications were made to the Mahogany B platform to enable the processing.
  • The processed gas and fluids are transported to bpTT’s Galeota Point Terminal through two existing pipelines: a 40-inch diameter gas pipeline and a 12-inch diameter liquids pipeline.

Contractors Involved

  • Technip USA was awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the jacket and topsides of the platform. They are also responsible for the fabrication, transport, installation, and pre-commissioning of the flow lines, subsea pipeline, subsea structures, and tie-in spools.
  • Diamond Offshore Drilling supplied the semi-submersible drilling rig Ocean Victory.
  • Acteon company InterMoor carried out the platform mooring and foundation installation.

Project Timeline

  • The project was sanctioned in August 2014.
  • Fabrication of the gas gathering platform began in 2014.
  • Offshore drilling was expected to start in May 2015.
  • First gas was expected in 2017.
