Cypre
- Type: Rig
- field
- Latitude: 10.0309851
- Longitude: -60.2897592
Location and Geology
- The Cypre gas field is situated within the East Mayaro Block, approximately 78 kilometers off the south-east coast of Trinidad, at a water depth of about 80 meters (or around 274 feet).
Project Overview
- The project involves the development of the Macadamia offshore gas discovery, which was made in 2017. The discovery well encountered hydrocarbon reservoirs in seven intervals, with a net pay of approximately 600 feet.
Ownership and Operation
- The Cypre gas field is operated by BP Trinidad and Tobago (BPTT), a consortium of BP (70%) and Repsol (30%).
Development Plan
- The project is planned as a subsea development, utilizing the existing infrastructure at the Juniper platform. This approach enables a faster supply of gas to the market compared to a normally uncrewed installation (NUI) development.
- The development will include seven wells and subsea trees, tied back to the Juniper platform via a four-slot manifold and two new 14-kilometer flexible flowlines. These flowlines are the longest in the country and will replace two existing flexible risers from depleted wells.
Production
- Production from the Cypre field is expected to start in 2025, with an estimated capacity of 250 to 300 million metric standard cubic feet of gas per day. Production is forecast to peak in 2026 and continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2045.
Contractors and Suppliers
- FEED and Design: Aker Solutions was contracted to provide the front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the platform in December 2019.
- EPCI Contract: Subsea Integration Alliance, an alliance between Subsea7 and OneSubsea, was awarded the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract. OneSubsea will provide subsea tree systems, subsea controls, and connection systems, while Subsea7 will handle the subsea pipelines and topside upgrades.
- Subsea Riser System: Aquaterra Energy was contracted to supply a subsea riser system, which will be operated from a jack-up rig.
- Flexible Pipe Systems: Baker Hughes is providing the flexible pipe systems, including the bespoke manufacture of pipe layers and custom-designed baskets for efficient load out, transportation, and storage.
Infrastructure and Power
- The project will receive power from the Juniper platform, avoiding the need for new power generation infrastructure and reducing carbon emissions.
Project Timeline
- Discovery: The Macadamia gas discovery was made in 2017.
- Final Investment Decision (FID): The FID was approved in September 2022.
- Drilling and Installation: Drilling activities are expected to begin in 2023, followed by offshore installation in 2024. Commercial production is anticipated to start in 2025.
Economic and Environmental Impact
- The development cost of the Cypre project is expected to be around $854 million.
- The project is designed to minimize environmental risks with durable and compliant flexible pipe systems that optimize flow under extreme conditions.
Integration with Existing Infrastructure
- The Cypre field is BPTT’s third subsea field development after the Juniper and Matapal fields. It will support BPTT in fulfilling its gas supply commitments by leveraging the existing infrastructure at the Juniper platform.
