East Hub
- Type: Rig
- project
- Latitude: -6.2719800
- Longitude: 11.2208000
Location and Block Details
The East Hub project is situated in the deepwater Block 15/06 of Angola, in water depths ranging from 300 to 1,800 meters.
Project Overview
The East Hub and West Hub projects are part of Eni's (now Azule Energy's) integrated approach to oil and gas operations in Angola. These projects are characterized by the application of innovative technologies and a fast-track approach to bring discoveries to market quickly.
Fields and Discoveries
The East Hub includes several fields, such as:
- Ndungu Field: Discovered in May 2019, the Ndungu field is part of the Agogo Integrated West Hub project. It was developed following the drilling of the Ndungu-1 and Ndungu-2 wells, which confirmed significant reserves of high-quality oil.
- Cuica and Cabaça North Fields: These fields are also part of the East Hub and are operated using the FPSO Armada Olombendo facility.
Production and Infrastructure
- FPSO Ngoma: The Ndungu Early Production (EP) development is linked to the Ngoma FPSO, which is a 100 kbopd zero-discharge and zero-process flaring facility. The Ngoma FPSO was upgraded in 2021 to minimize emissions as part of Eni’s decarbonisation strategy.
- FPSO Armada Olombendo: This FPSO serves the Cuica and Cabaça North fields.
Reserves and Production Capacity
- The Ndungu field is estimated to contain around 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent in place, following significant upgrades from initial estimates.
- The overall production capacity for the East Hub, including the Agogo Integrated West Hub project, involves multiple fields and is expected to sustain a plateau production level. For example, the Agogo FPSO, which will become operational from mid-2026, will contribute to the overall production capacity.
Development and Operations
- The project involves the drilling of new wells; the East and West Hub projects collectively include 36 new wells (21 producers and 15 injectors).
- The development also includes the installation of approximately 100 km of rigid flowlines, 100 km of flexible flowlines, and 100 km of umbilicals.
- Contractors involved in the project include TechnipFMC for flexible pipes, Baker Hughes for Subsea Production Systems, Saipem for rigid flowlines and subsea structure transportation and installation, and Subsea 7 for the transportation and installation of risers, flowlines, and subsea structures.
Environmental and Decarbonization Efforts
- Eni and Azule Energy are committed to minimizing environmental impact through the implementation of a Zero Discharge Policy for production water and drilling residue. They also focus on technological innovation to reduce emissions and prevent spills.
- The projects incorporate energy recovery and the reuse of associated gas, aligning with decarbonization strategies and the principles of the circular economy.
Community and Local Development
- The local development projects are designed to promote community growth based on specific needs, creating long-term value for the areas involved.
The East Hub project is a testament to the integrated and innovative approach to oil and gas production in Angola, emphasizing both operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.
