Gannet C
- Type: Rig
- field
- Latitude: 57.1513140
- Longitude: 0.9485123
Location
The Gannet C field is situated approximately 180 km east of Aberdeen, in the Central North Sea, within blocks 21/25, 21/30, 22/21, and 22/26a. It is specifically located 5 km south-west of the Gannet A platform.
Geology and Reservoir
Gannet C is characterized as an oil rim reservoir with a gas cap. The reservoir consists of good-quality turbiditic sands of Tertiary age, specifically from the Tay, Rogaland, Forties, Lista, and Andrew Formations. The reservoir depth ranges between 1,768m and 2,728m.
Reserves and Production
- The Gannet C field contains approximately 60 million barrels of oil and 140 billion cubic feet of gas.
- The field is developed with six horizontal oil wells and two gas production wells, all serviced by 100mm pipelines running to the Gannet A platform.
Development and Infrastructure
- The field is tied back to the centrally placed fixed-production platform at Gannet A.
- The wells in Gannet C are connected to the platform via subsea pipelines. Gas injection and gas lift facilities are also controlled from the Gannet A platform to enhance oil recovery if necessary.
API Gravity
The oil in the Gannet C field has an API gravity of approximately 40°, indicating it is of relatively light quality compared to the heavier oil found in the Gannet E field.
Operational History
- The Gannet field, including Gannet C, was discovered in 1973.
- Production from the Gannet complex started in 1993.
- Over the years, various phases of development have been undertaken, including the latest projects to maintain and enhance production from the field.
Contractors and Services
- The development of the Gannet C field involved several contractors, including Technip for engineering, procurement, installation, and construction (EPIC) contracts.
- Other services, such as re-insulation of bundles, have been provided by companies like Boskalis.
Processing and Export
- Processed oil from Gannet C is combined with oil from other fields and exported through an infield pipeline to the Fulmar A installation and then via the Norpipe to Teesside.
- Gas is compressed and exported through the Fulmar gas pipeline to the SEGAL St Fergus Gas Processing Terminal.
Environmental and Safety Considerations
- The operations at Gannet C, like the rest of the Gannet complex, are subject to environmental regulations and assessments to ensure minimal impact on the environment.
- Produced water is treated prior to overboard disposal, and there are facilities for gas injection and gas lift to manage the reservoirs effectively.
