Location
The GirRI Oil Project is situated offshore in Angola's Block 17, approximately 93 miles (150 kilometers) from the coast. The project operates in deep waters, with depths of around 4,600 feet (1,402 meters).
Discovery and Field Details
The Girassol oil field, which is part of the GirRI project, was discovered in April 1996 through the GIR-1 exploration well. The field is located at a true vertical depth of 8,202 feet (2,500 meters).
Project Phases
The project has undergone multiple phases, with Phase 2 being a notable development.
Phase 2
- This phase involved several key activities, including:
- The installation of 21 km (13 miles) of umbilicals and 13 km (8 miles) of interconnecting power cables between the Dalia and the Girassol FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading) units.
- The recovery and disposal of four rigid spools and the installation of eight new flexible spools.
- FPSO hook-up, rope access, general rigging, and the installation of MPP umbilicals. Additional tasks included assisting pre-commissioning technicians and divers with equipment setup, electrical and pressure testing, and final installations on the umbilical riser and bolt tensioning on bend stiffeners.
Contractors and Operators
- Total E&P Angola awarded Technip an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPC) contract for Phase 2 of the Girassol Resources.
Scope of Work
The scope of work for Phase 2 included various technical and logistical tasks:
- FPSO hook-up and general rigging
- Installation of MPP umbilicals
- Complete pull-in operations
- Assistance with pre-commissioning, electrical, and pressure testing
- Final installations by divers and hydra-tight technicians
- Demobilization of all equipment.
Personnel and Logistics
- The project required specialized personnel, including riggers and technicians.
- The logistics coverage was extensive, with an emphasis on operating within the challenging environment of Angola.
Customer Feedback
