Gorek
- Type: Rig
- field
- Latitude: 4.4523864
- Longitude: 112.8202741
Location
The Gorek field is located within the SK408 Production Sharing Contract (PSC) area, approximately 120 kilometers offshore Sarawak in the Central Luconia Gas Province, Malaysia.
Development Partners
The SK408 gas fields development project, including the Gorek field, is being developed jointly by:
- SapuraOMV Upstream (40% stake)
- Sarawak Shell Berhad (30% stake)
- Petronas Carigali (30% stake).
Discovery and Reserves
The Gorek field was discovered in 2014 as part of a drilling campaign. The discovery well, Gorek-1, encountered a gross gas column of 235 meters within the Late Miocene Carbonates reservoir. The field is estimated to contain more than three trillion standard cubic feet (tscf) of gas, combined with the other fields in the SK408 block.
Development and Production
The Gorek field is part of the phase one development of the SK408 project, along with the Bakong and Larak fields. The final investment decision (FID) for the development of these three fields was made in April 2018. The Gorek field, operated by Shell, came onstream in May 2020. The gas produced from the Gorek field is supplied to the Petronas LNG complex in Bintulu, Sarawak, under a full-term gas sales agreement signed in September 2019.
Infrastructure
The gas from the Gorek field is processed through Shell’s existing F6 processing facility. From there, it is piped to the Petronas Bintulu LNG complex via existing pipelines for further processing. The field development includes wellhead platforms tied back to the F6 processing facility.
Contractors Involved
McDermott was awarded contracts for the development of the fields, including the Gorek field. They were responsible for transporting and installing jackets, pipelines, and topsides for the Gorek gas field under a contract with Sarawak Shell Berhad.
Production Expectations
The production from the Gorek field, along with the other fields in the SK408 block, was expected to rise to over 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) by the end of 2020. The fields are expected to support the rising demand for gas in Asia.
In summary, the Gorek field is a significant component of the SK408 Gas Fields Development Project, contributing to the overall gas production and supply in the region.
