Greater Angostura Oil and Gas Project Profile
Location
The Greater Angostura field is an offshore conventional oil and gas field located approximately 38 kilometers northeast of Trinidad and Tobago. It is situated in Block 2(c) in shallow water, with a water depth of about 164 feet.
Discovery and Production
- The Angostura field was discovered in 1999.
- First oil production began in January 2005 (Phase 1).
- Gas sales commenced in 2011 (Phase 2).
- First gas production for Angostura Phase 3 started in September 2016.
Current Development
The project includes several key infrastructure components:
- A main central processing platform (CPP)
- A gas export platform (GEP)
- Four wellhead protector platforms (WPP)
- An onshore terminal
- Flowlines connecting the Ruby wellhead platform back to the CPP and GEP for processing.
Participating Interests
The ownership structure of the Greater Angostura field is as follows:
- Woodside Energy Group: 45% (Operator)
- National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago: 30%
- Chaoyang Petroleum (Trinidad): 25%.
Production and Reserves
- Oil Production: As of 2022, the field produces approximately 36.5 million barrels of oil per year.
- Gas Production: The field produces around 3,514.09 million cubic meters of gas per year as of 2022.
- Reserves:
- Gas: 2P reserves were estimated at 49,554.01 million cubic meters in 2012 and 15,826.14 million cubic meters in 2021.
- Oil: 2P reserves were estimated at 160 million barrels in 2012 and 4.7 million barrels of oil and condensate in 2021.
Phase Developments
- Phase 1: Achieved first oil in January 2005.
- Phase 2: Established gas sales in 2011.
- Phase 3: First gas production began in September 2016, with expected production of between 400 and 500 billion cubic feet of natural gas and 2.8 million barrels of oil.
Additional Fields
The Greater Angostura Fields also include the Ruby field, which is a conventional offshore oil and gas field. First oil from the Ruby field was achieved in May 2021.
Economic Projections
Production from the Greater Angostura field is expected to continue until it reaches its economic limit in 2053, based on current economic assumptions. The field currently accounts for approximately 9% of Trinidad and Tobago's daily oil and gas output.
Infrastructure and Operations
- Crude oil from the CPP is transported to the Terminal Facility located at the southeastern end of Trinidad.
- The project is supported by an onshore terminal and various platforms connected by flowlines.
