Kissanje Oil Field Profile
Location and Geology
- The Kissanje Oil Field is located offshore Angola, specifically within Block 15, approximately 215 miles northwest of Luanda and 145 km west of Soyo.
- The field is situated in water depths of 3,300 to 3,400 feet (around 1,006 to 1,036 meters).
Project Details
- The Kissanje Oil Field is part of the larger Kizomba B Oil Project, which also includes the Dikanza Oil and Gas Field.
- The project was developed by a joint venture consisting of ExxonMobil (operator, 40%), Eni S.P.A. (20%), BP (26.67%), and Statoil (now Equinor, 13.33%).
Discovery and Production
- The Kissanje field was discovered in 1998 as part of a wildcat drilling program that resulted in several discoveries within the Kizomba complex.
- Production from the Kissanje field commenced in July 2005.
- The field is expected to recover approximately one billion barrels of oil, with a target production rate of 250,000 barrels per day (b/d).
Infrastructure
- The Kizomba B project includes a surface wellhead platform and subsea wells tied back to a Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.
- The FPSO has a storage capacity of 2.2 million barrels of oil, measures 285 meters by 63 meters, stands 32 meters tall, and has a weight of 81,000 tons. It can accommodate 100 personnel.
Crude Oil Characteristics
- The Kissanje Blend crude oil is a medium-density, low-sulfur crude.
- API gravity: 30.7°
- Sulfur level: 0.36 mass%
- Acidity: 0.54 mg KOH/g
- Nickel: 10.7 mg/Kg
- Viscosity at 20°C: 0.41 cst (for lighter fractions), varying with different cuts
- The crude has a distillation yield profile that includes:
- C1 to C4: 1.33% wt
- Naphtha: 16.53% wt
- Kerosene: 13.11% wt
- Gas Oil: 15.96% wt
- Atmospheric Residue: 53.08% wt
Production and Reserves
- As of the data available, the Kissanje field was producing around 150,000 barrels per day (kbd).
- The Kizomba B project, which includes Kissanje and Dikanza, is expected to recover approximately one billion barrels of oil.
Environmental and Social Impact
- The development of the Kizomba B project involved significant investment in local goods and services, including contracts for in-country fabrication, logistics support, and training and development of Angolan personnel.
Operational Timeline
- Discovery: 1998
- Start of construction for Kizomba B: Early 2003
- First oil production from Kizomba B: July 2005
- Peak production from Kizomba A, B, and Xikomba projects: Expected to exceed 550,000 b/d by the end of 2005
