Lanta
- Type: Rig
- field
- Latitude: 10.6450000
- Longitude: 101.1760000
Location and Reservoir Details
- The Atlanta oil field is situated in block BS-4 of the Santos Basin, approximately 185 kilometers southeast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
- The field is in ultra-deepwater, with a water depth of about 1,550 meters (or 5,100 feet).
Operator and Ownership
- The field is operated by Enauta Energia, a subsidiary of Enauta Participações.
- Enauta Energia holds a 50% interest in the block, having acquired this stake from Barra Energia in a transaction approved by Brazil’s National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP) in April 2021.
Reservoir Characteristics
- The Atlanta field is a post-salt oil field containing heavy oil with low sulfur content.
- The field was discovered in 2001 and covers an area of approximately 199.6 square kilometers.
Reserves and Production
- As of December 2020, the 2P reserves of the field were estimated to be around 103 million barrels of oil equivalent (Mboe).
- Since the start of production in May 2018, the field has produced more than 16 million barrels of oil. In 2020, the gross output was 6.281 million barrels, down from 6.921 million barrels in 2019.
- The field is expected to recover 19.73% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production anticipated in 2028 and production continuing until the field reaches its economic limit in 2044.
Early Production System (EPS)
- The initial field development involves an EPS comprising three horizontal production wells tied back to the Petrojarl I floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
- The first two wells began operations in 2018, and the third well started production in June 2019. Well intervention operations were performed on the first and second wells in June and September 2019, respectively.
FPSO and Production Capacity
- The Petrojarl I FPSO, operated by Teekay Offshore Production, has a production capacity of approximately 30,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd), a compression capacity of about 225,500 cubic meters of gas per day, and a storage capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil.
- Due to technical issues in the oil heating and water separation systems, production was halted in November 2020 but resumed in February 2021 with the start of operations of one of the EPS wells. The second well resumed production in May 2021, and the third well was anticipated to resume production in July 2021.
Full Development System (FDS)
- Enauta initiated the bidding process for a new FPSO for the planned FDS in March 2021, expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022. The new FPSO will have a production capacity of 50,000 bopd.
- The FDS will include six to eight production wells, including the three existing EPS wells, tied back to the new FPSO. The bidding process for subsea systems and wells began in the second quarter of 2021.
Expansion Projects
- Two expansion projects are associated with the Atlanta field: the Atlanta Full Development System (FDS) Stage 1 and Stage 2. These projects are currently in the commissioning and construction stage, targeting start-up between 2024 and 2029.
Contractors and Partners
- Key contractors involved in the project include Sapura Energy (main EPC), DP World, Enauta Participações, Amarinth, Akselos, and Constellation Oil Services.
- The Atlanta field development partners have a Crude Oil Sales Agreement (COSA) with Shell Western Supply and Trading, which buys the oil produced during the early production phase.
Current Status and Future Outlook
- The field is currently in the early production phase, with plans for full development underway. The production issues experienced in 2020 have been addressed, and the field is on track for expanded production with the new FPSO and additional wells.
- Peak production is expected in 2028, and the field is projected to continue producing until it reaches its economic limit in 2044.
