Leman (Perenco)
- Type: Rig
- field
- Latitude: 53.0720197
- Longitude: 2.2158287
Location
The Leman field is situated approximately 53 kilometers northeast of the Bacton Gas Terminal (BGT) off the coast of East Anglia.
Operations and Infrastructure
- The field utilizes 16 development platforms, with 9 of these installations operated by Perenco.
- The platforms are connected by a network of pipelines, and the gas produced is exported to the Bacton Gas Terminal via these pipelines.
Specific Platforms (27H and 27J)
- Platforms Leman 49/27H (27H) and Leman 49/27J (27J) were installed in 1984 to provide gas extraction facilities and export gas to the main Leman 49/27A (27A) platform. These platforms are operated by Perenco (78.26%) in partnership with Rockrose Energy (21.74%).
- As part of the Southern Hub Asset Rationalisation Project (SHARP), the 27A platform is set to become a Normally Unattended Installation (NUI), and the produced gas and condensate from the satellite platforms, including 27H and 27J, will be routed to the Leman 49/27B (27B) platform and then to BGT via pipeline PL23.
Decommissioning Plans
- Perenco has filed decommissioning programmes for the removal of the topsides of the 27H and 27J platforms. The decommissioning programme includes plugging and abandoning the wells, making the platforms hydrocarbon-free, and then removing the topsides using a decommissioning jack-up barge or a drilling rig. Other removal options, such as using a heavy-lift vessel or dismantling in smaller pieces, are also being considered.
- There is a potential re-use opportunity for the 27H installation, with Perenco reviewing various options internally. If re-use proceeds, the 27H topsides will be rendered hydrocarbon-free, and the wells will be plugged to "AB3 status".
Environmental and Regulatory Compliance
- The decommissioning programme for the topsides removal complies with Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning (OPRED) guidelines and includes an Environmental Appraisal to support the decommissioning activities.
- The pipelines associated with the 27H and 27J installations will be flushed and isolated prior to the decommissioning activities, using seawater and following industry best practices and best environmental practices (BEP).
Production and Field Life Extension
- The Southern Hub Asset Rationalisation Project (SHARP) aimed to extend the operating life of the Leman and Indefatigable fields by combining them into a single production hub.
- The field continues to be an important part of Perenco's operations in the North Sea, with ongoing efforts to optimize production and extend the field's life.
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project
- Perenco, in a joint venture with Carbon Catalyst, has been awarded a license to progress a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at the Leman gas fields, known as the Poseidon CCS project. This project involves injecting carbon dioxide into depleted undersea gas reservoirs and saline aquifers.
In summary, the Leman gas field is a significant asset for Perenco, with ongoing operations, decommissioning plans, and innovative projects such as CCS to ensure sustainable and environmentally responsible management of the field.
