Mamba

Location and Geology

• The Mamba gas fields are situated in the ultra-deep waters of the Mozambique Channel, specifically within Block Area 4.
• The water depths vary, with the Mamba Northeast field located at approximately 6,540 feet (1,998 meters), the Mamba North 1 discovery at 1,690 meters, and the Mamba North East 1 at 1,848 meters.

Discovery and History

• The discoveries in the Mamba area began in 2011 with the Mamba South discovery, followed by the successful drilling of the Mamba North 1 prospect in 2012.
• Further discoveries and appraisals have been conducted since then, with significant gas reserves identified.

Field Details

Mamba Northeast

• Operator: Mozambique Rovuma Venture
• Ownership: China National Petroleum, Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos EP, Eni, Exxon Mobil, Galp Energia SGPS, and Korea Gas.
• Production Start: Expected to begin in 2028, with peak production forecasted in 2040 and continuing until the economic limit is reached in 2078.
• Reserves: Part of the larger Mamba Complex, with estimated reserves of 75 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas in place for the entire complex.

Mamba North

• Operator: Eni S.P.A
• Ownership: Eni S.P.A. (25%), ExxonMobil (25%), Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos de Mozambique (20%), and other partners (30%).
• Status: Operating
• Reserves: Estimated gas reserves of approximately 424.7 million cubic meters (as of 2018) and additional resources.

Mamba Complex

• Operator: Mozambique Rovuma Venture
• Ownership: Similar to Mamba Northeast, with China National Petroleum, Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos EP, Eni, Exxon Mobil, Galp Energia SGPS, and Korea Gas involved.
• Production Start: Expected to begin in 2028, with peak production forecasted in 2029 and continuing until the economic limit is reached in 2057.
• Development: The project involves the drilling of approximately 24 wells, along with subsea manifold and subsea trees. The development cost is estimated at $23 billion.

Production and Reserves
