Location

The Mavacola Oil and Gas Field is situated in Block 15, offshore Angola, at approximate coordinates of -6.309, 11.092 (WGS 84). It is about 95 miles offshore Angola.

Project Details

Operator and Ownership

The field is operated by Esso, which is a subsidiary of ExxonMobil. The ownership structure includes ExxonMobil (40.0%), Eni S.P.A. (20.0%), BP (26.67%), and Statoil (now Equinor) (13.33%).

Discovery and Production

The Mavacola field was discovered in 1999. Production began in 2004 as part of the Kizomba Satellites Phase 1 project.

Production and Reserves

The Mavacola field, along with the Clochas field, is part of the Kizomba Satellites Phase 1 project. Together, these fields are estimated to contain approximately 250 million barrels of oil. The project started production in July 2012, with an expected peak production rate of 100,000 barrels per day (bpd).

Infrastructure

The production from Mavacola is tied back to the existing Kizomba A and B production facilities through subsea wells. The project involved the development of 18 wells as part of Phase 1 of the Kizomba Satellites project.

Water Depth

The Mavacola field is located in water depths of approximately 4,500 feet (1,372 meters).

Facilities

The production from Mavacola is processed and stored using the Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessels associated with the Kizomba A and B projects. These FPSO vessels are capable of producing and refining 250,000 barrels of crude oil per day and have a storage capacity of 2.2 million barrels each.

Historical Context

ExxonMobil was awarded Block 15 in 1994, which includes the Mavacola field. The development of the Kizomba Satellites Phase 1, including Mavacola, began in earnest in the late 2000s, with production starting in 2012.

Phase 2 Development

While the Mavacola field is part of Phase 1, the broader Kizomba Satellites project also includes Phase 2, which involves the development of the Kakocha, Bavuca, and Mondo South fields. However, Mavacola itself is not part of this phase.

In summary, the Mavacola Oil and Gas Field is a significant component of ExxonMobil's offshore operations in Angola, contributing to the country's oil and gas production through its integration with the Kizomba Satellites project.
