Location and Geology

The Maydan Mahzam Oil and Gas Field is located offshore in Qatar, specifically in shallow water with a depth of approximately 141 feet (43 meters). The field is situated at coordinates 25.753, 52.4466 (WGS 84).

Operator and Ownership

The field is operated and owned by QatarEnergy, a state-owned integrated oil and gas company based in Doha, Qatar. QatarEnergy is responsible for the entire spectrum of the oil and gas value chain, including exploration, production, refining, and marketing.

History and Production

• The Maydan Mahzam field was discovered in 1963 and began production in 1965.
• The field reached its peak production in 1972. As of recent data, the field has recovered 98.40% of its total recoverable reserves, with production expected to continue until it reaches its economic limit in 2027.

Production Details

• The field produces crude oil, associated gas, and condensate. In 2019, the production levels were:
  • Gas: 403.09 million m³ per year
  • Oil: 7.45 million barrels per year.
• Current daily production from the Maydan Mahzam field is approximately 75,000 barrels per day, with plans to increase this to 95,000 barrels per day as part of a broader development program.

Infrastructure

• There are two offshore production platforms, PS-2 and PS-3, which produce crude oil, associated gas, and condensate. The oil with condensate is piped to Halul Island for storage and export, while the gas is used for various purposes including lifting oil from reservoirs and as fuel for production stations and facilities.

Contractors and Development

• Several contractors are involved in the project, including:
  • John Wood Group for design and FEED engineering
  • Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, and Fugro for other services.
• Larsen and Toubro have been involved in upgrading the living quarters and power facilities of the PS-2 and PS-3 complexes.
• QatarEnergy has recently issued Expressions of Interest (EoIs) for multiple Engineering, Procurement, Installation, and Commissioning (EPIC) deals involving offshore platforms, subsea pipelines, and related infrastructure as part of the Maydan Mahzam redevelopment project.

Future Development

• QatarEnergy plans a significant expansion and redevelopment of the Maydan Mahzam field. This includes a 10-year drilling program that involves drilling 37 new development wells, mostly horizontal wells, to increase the field's production capacity.
• The redevelopment project aims to enhance the field's productivity and extend its lifespan beyond the current economic limit of 2027.
