Millom

Location

The Millom field is situated in the East Irish Sea, specifically across blocks 110/2a, 110/3a, 110/8a, and 113/27b. It is part of the larger Morecambe Hub, which also includes the North Morecambe and South Morecambe fields.

Infrastructure

• The Millom field is connected to the North Morecambe Drilling and Production Platform Alpha (DPPA), which acts as the main gathering hub for the area.
• The field's infrastructure includes several platforms and pipelines. Specifically, it is linked to the DPPA platform, which provides hydraulic power and chemical injection capabilities to Millom East and electrical power to Millom West.
• The export route for Millom involves a pipeline (PL1674) that connects to the Rivers Terminal, one of the gas processing facilities near Barrow-in-Furness.

Decommissioning and Current Status

• The topsides of the Millom platforms were removed in 2021. The fixed steel jackets are scheduled to be removed in 2023 as part of the decommissioning program.
• Despite the ongoing decommissioning activities, the field has been integrated into the broader Morecambe Hub operations, ensuring continued production and support for the region's gas supply.

Production and Export

• Gas and possibly condensates from the Millom field are exported via pipelines to the Rivers Terminal, where they are processed before being distributed. The gas is ultimately exported to the Barrow Gas Terminals.

Operational Details

• The field is operated as part of the Morecambe Hub, which has been a significant contributor to the UK's domestic gas demand. At its peak, the Morecambe Hub, including Millom, met 20% of the UK’s domestic gas demand.

Environmental and Technical Considerations

• The decommissioning program for Millom and other nearby fields involves detailed environmental appraisals and risk assessments to ensure that the removal of infrastructure is done safely and with minimal environmental impact.
