Moho (Phase 1bis - BILDM2,3)

  • Type: Rig
  • field
  • Latitude: -5.3543000
  • Longitude: 11.4362000

Location

The Moho Nord project is situated in the Moho-Bilondo licence block, approximately 75 kilometers offshore from Pointe-Noire city in the Republic of the Congo, and about 25 kilometers west of the N’Kossa field.

Operators and Stakeholders

  • The project is operated by TotalEnergies through its subsidiary Total E&P Congo, which holds a 53.5% interest.
  • Other stakeholders include Chevron with a 31.5% interest and the state-owned oil company Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC) with a 15% interest.

Project Phases

The project involves two main development phases:

  • Moho Phase 1bis: This phase focuses on the southern part of the licence block and involved upgrading the existing Alima floating production unit (FPU) and connecting it to nine new subsea wells. This upgrade increased the production capacity by an additional 40,000 barrels of oil per day.
  • Moho Nord: This phase targets new reserves in the northern part of the licence block. It became operational in March 2017 and includes a subsea development with 34 wells tied back to a new all-electric FPU named Likouf and a new Tension Leg Platform (TLP).

Reservoirs and Production

  • The project encompasses four reservoirs located at water depths between 750 meters and 1,200 meters.
  • The Likouf FPU is involved in extracting oil from the Miocene reservoir, while the TLP produces oil from the Albian reservoir at a water depth of 3,000 meters.
  • The combined production from Moho Phase 1bis and Moho Nord is approximately 140,000 barrels of oil per day. The Likouf FPU alone is capable of producing 100,000 barrels of oil and 2.5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.

Exploration and Drilling

  • Exploration wells Moho Nord Marine 1 and 2 were drilled in 2007.
  • Successful discoveries were announced from the Bilondo Marine 2 and 3 wells (BILDM-2 and BILDM-3) in January 2011. These wells were drilled in a water depth of 800 meters and reached a total depth of around 1,800 meters in the Tertiary series, encountering gross reservoirs of 77 meters and 44 meters respectively.

Infrastructure and Contractors

  • The project involved significant infrastructure development, including the delivery of the FPU and TLP by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) with contracts valued at $1.3 billion and $700 million respectively.
  • Technip was awarded a contract for engineering, procurement, supply, construction, installation (EPSCI), and pre-commissioning, valued at more than €500 million. This included the delivery of 230 kilometers of rigid pipelines, 23 kilometers of flexible pipes, 50 kilometers of umbilicals, and 50 subsea structures.
  • Ponticelli Frères was involved in the construction and installation works on the Alima FPU.

Investment and Reserves

  • The Moho Nord project required an investment of around $10 billion for its second development stage.
  • The project targets additional reserves totaling around 485 million barrels of oil equivalent, located in both the southern and northern parts of the licence block.

Production and Transportation

  • After processing, the oil is transported to the Djeno onshore terminal.
