Mondo Oil Project Profile
Location and Field Details
- The Mondo oil field is located approximately 370 kilometers west of Luanda, Angola, in the Block 15 area.
- The field is situated in a water depth of about 2,400 feet (740 meters).
Discovery and Development
- The Mondo field was discovered in July 2000 by Esso Exploration Angola, with the discovery well encountering an oil-bearing interval that flowed at a test rate of 4,200 barrels per day (bpd).
- The development of the Mondo field is part of the Kizomba C project, which also includes the Saxi and Batuque fields.
Production and Capacity
- The Mondo field began producing oil in January 2008.
- The Kizomba C project, which includes Mondo, Saxi, and Batuque, is designed to develop 600 million barrels of oil. The combined production from these fields is expected to contribute around 100,000 barrels per day (bpd).
Infrastructure and Operations
- The production from the Mondo field is facilitated through the Kizomba C development, which features two Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels and 36 subsea wells. This makes it the largest subsea development operated by ExxonMobil affiliates worldwide.
- The FPSO vessel associated with the Mondo field, known as the Mondo FPSO, has a processing capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and a storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels of oil. This FPSO was converted from the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Capella.
Contractors and Construction
- The conversion of the VLCC Capella into the Mondo FPSO was undertaken by several contractors:
- Keppel: Conversion, including installation and integration of the topside modules, installation of an external turret and helideck, fabrication and installation of a flare tower, and bow modification work.
- Dyna Mac: Fabrication of five units of topside modules.
- Nessco: Installation of communications systems.
- VWS Westgarth: Water treatment systems.
- Kavin Engineering: Design and engineering of the gas dehydration and TEG regeneration package.
Ownership and Operation
- The Mondo FPSO is owned by SBM Offshore and operated by ExxonMobil.
Economic and Social Impact
- The Kizomba C project, including the Mondo field, involved significant local investment, with approximately $1.5 billion spent on local goods and services, including contracts for in-country fabrication, logistics support, training, and development of Angolan personnel.
