Nene Marine Field Oil and Gas Project Profile
Location
The Nene Marine Field is located offshore in the Republic of the Congo, specifically within the Marine XII, Marine XII A, and Nene Banga blocks. It is approximately 17 kilometers from the coast and at a water depth of about 28 meters (or 92 feet).
Coordinates
The field's approximate coordinates are -4.5487, 11.5845 (WGS 84).
Operator and Ownership
The field is operated by Eni S.P.A., which holds a 65% stake. The other partners are PJSC LUKOIL with a 25% stake and the National Petroleum Company of the Congo (SNPC) with a 10% stake.
Discovery and Production
The Nene Marine Field was discovered in 2013, and production began in 2014, just eight months after obtaining the production permit and 16 months following the exploration discovery.
Geology
The field produces from the Djeno pre-salt formation, which is approximately 2.5 kilometers below the ground level.
Production Details
- Initial Production: The first phase of production targets 7,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), collected from a platform and sent via a subsea pipeline to Eni’s Zatchi production platform for treatment.
- Plateau Production: The complete development of the field is planned in several stages, including the installation of production platforms and the drilling of over 30 wells, with a plateau production of more than 140,000 boe/d.
- Current Production: The field currently accounts for approximately 7% of the Republic of the Congo’s daily oil output.
Reserves
- Hydrocarbons: The remaining recoverable reserves are estimated at around 196.05 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) as of 2021.
- Oil and Condensate: The remaining recoverable reserves of oil and condensate are approximately 158.43 million barrels as of 2021.
- Gas: The remaining recoverable gas reserves are about 6,391.34 million cubic meters as of 2021.
Production Capacity
The production design capacity of the field is 18.25 million boe per year as of 2019.
Production Test
During the production test, the Nené Marine 3 well delivered in excess of 5,000 barrels of oil per day with a density of 36° API.
Field Development
The development of the field is ongoing in stages, including the installation of production platforms and the drilling of multiple wells. The field is expected to continue production until it reaches its economic limit in 2042, based on economic assumptions.
Historical Context
Eni has been operating in the Republic of the Congo since 1968 and has discovered approximately 3.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent of resources in the Congolese Marine XII Block, with 1.5 billion barrels attributable to the Nene Marine field.
