Nene Marine (Phase 2A)
- Type: Rig
- field
- Latitude: -4.5487000
- Longitude: 11.5845000
Location and Block Details
- The Nené Marine field is located in the Marine XII Block, offshore the Republic of Congo, approximately 17 km from the coast.
Operator and Partners
- The field is operated by Eni Congo SA, a subsidiary of Eni, which holds a 65% stake. The other partners are New Age (25%) and Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (10%).
Production History and Timeline
- Production at the Nené Marine field began in 2015, just eight months after obtaining the production permit and 16 months after the exploration discovery.
- The field's development is taking place in several phases, with Phase 2A being a significant part of the overall development plan.
Phase 2A Development
- Phase 2A involves the installation of additional production platforms. The first platform of Phase 2A was installed 12 months after approval, and new wells were drilled to begin the production ramp-up of the Nené field.
- The installation of the second platform of Phase 2A was also completed, with the first well of this platform put into production.
Production Capacity and Wells
- The initial production from the first phase was 7,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d). The complete development of the field aims for a plateau production of over 140,000 boe/d.
- Over 30 wells are planned to be drilled as part of the full field development.
Infrastructure and Operations
- The oil is collected from the platform and sent for treatment on the Zatchi production platform, operated by Eni, via a subsea pipeline with a length of 17 km.
- The field produces from the Djeno pre-salt formation, located 2.5 km below the ground level, at a water depth of 28 meters.
Reserves and Recovery
- The Nené Marine field is estimated to have approximately 1.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) of resources, part of the larger 3.5 billion boe discovered in the Marine XII Block.
- As of recent data, the field has recovered 41.97% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production achieved in 2020. Production is expected to continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2042.
Technological and Environmental Aspects
- The development of the field includes the use of advanced technologies such as Inline Phase Splitter (IPS) technology and the integration of gas production to feed local energy generation through power stations like the Centrale Electrique du Congo (CEC) and the Centrale electrique du Djéno (CED).
Contribution to National Energy
- The Nené Marine field currently accounts for approximately 7% of the Republic of Congo's daily oil output.
- The associated gas production from the Marine XII block also contributes significantly to the country's electricity generation, with the CEC power station generating about 70% of the country’s total electricity production since 2020.
Future Developments
- In addition to the ongoing oil production, there are plans for liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in the Marine XII block. Two floating LNG (FLNG) facilities are under development, with the first facility, the Tango FLNG, scheduled to start operations by the end of 2024, and the second, larger facility planned to start in 2025.
