Location

The North Amethyst Oil and Gas Field is situated in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin, offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is approximately 7 km south of the White Rose field and 17 km northeast of the Terra Nova oil field.

Discovery and Development

• The North Amethyst field was discovered in 2006 through delineation drilling.

• The field was developed as the first near-field tieback offshore Canada, involving the construction of a new glory hole with a capacity for up to 16 wells.

• Jumbo Offshore assisted with the installation activities.

Challenges and Incidents

• Operations at the North Amethyst field were suspended in November 2018 due to an oil spill incident at the White Rose field. Activities resumed in August 2019 after the necessary repairs and approvals.

Production Peak and Field Life

• The North Amethyst field is part of the broader White Rose expansion project, which aims to extend the life of the White Rose field by 14 years.
• The field's planned peak output production is estimated to reach 37,000 barrels per day.
