Penglai 25-6
- Type: Rig
- field
- Latitude: 38.3437390
- Longitude: 120.1379220
Location
The Penglai 25-6 oil field is situated in Block 11/05 of the Bohai Bay, approximately 235 kilometers southeast of Tanggu, Tianjin, China. The field is in waters with a depth of about 30 meters (or 75 feet).
Ownership and Operatorship
The Penglai 25-6 oil field is jointly owned by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) and ConocoPhillips. CNOOC holds a 51% interest, while ConocoPhillips holds the remaining 49%. Although ConocoPhillips was the original operator, it transferred the operatorship to CNOOC in July 2014.
Discovery and Development
The Penglai 25-6 field was discovered in 2000, shortly after the discovery of the Penglai 19-3 field in 1999. The development of the Penglai fields, including the 25-6 field, has been carried out in multiple phases.
Phase 1 and 2
The initial development phases included the integration of the Penglai 25-6 field with the Penglai 19-3 and 19-9 fields. Phase 1 began in April 2002 and entered production in December 2002. Phase 2, which became fully operational in 2009, involved the installation of six drilling and production platforms and the deployment of the Peng Bo FPSO (Hai Yang Shi You 117) vessel.
Phase 3 and Recent Developments
The Penglai 19-3/19-9 phase three project, sanctioned in 2015, included developments that also impacted the 25-6 field. However, specific to the Penglai 25-6 field:
- The Penglai 25-6 Phase 4A project was sanctioned in December 2018, with the first oil expected in 2021. This project involves a new wellhead platform.
- The Penglai 25-6 oilfield Area 3 project commenced early production, with an expected peak production of approximately 11,511 barrels of crude oil per day.
Production and Facilities
- The Penglai 25-6 field is part of a larger complex that includes several wellhead platforms and the Peng Bo FPSO vessel. The Peng Bo FPSO has a processing capacity of 190,000 barrels per day and a storage capacity of two million barrels.
- As of recent developments, the field is expected to contribute to the overall production capacity of the Penglai fields, with ongoing projects aimed at maintaining and increasing production levels.
Environmental and Operational Practices
The Penglai fields, including the 25-6 field, are managed with a focus on environmental stewardship. The operations adhere to a "zero discharge" policy, where all produced water is treated and re-injected into the reservoir, minimizing environmental impact.
Future Plans
An expansion project associated with the Penglai fields, known as the Bohai Phase 5, is currently in the feasibility stage and is expected to start in 2025. This could potentially include further developments for the Penglai 25-6 field.
In summary, the Penglai 25-6 oil field is a crucial part of the broader Penglai oil fields development, with ongoing and future projects aimed at optimizing production while maintaining stringent environmental standards.
