  • field
  • Latitude: 9.8270000
  • Longitude: 101.5520000

Location

The Plamuk oil project is located in the Gulf of Thailand (GoT), specifically within the northern part of block G1/61. This area is part of the larger petroleum-producing region in Thailand.

Geology and Basin

The Plamuk field is situated within the Pattani Basin and the North Malay Basin, which are the most successful areas for petroleum exploration and production in Thailand. These basins are characterized by Cenozoic sedimentary formations, including graben and half-graben geometries oriented in the north-south direction. The rock layers in this region include mudstone interbedded with sandstone, shale, and coal, formed during the Late Miocene-Recent period.

Production

The Plamuk field is one of the several petroleum fields in the northern part of block G1/61, which also includes fields like Platong, Surat, Yala, and Kaphong. These fields produce gas, oil, and condensate. The cumulative production of natural gas, crude oil, and condensate in the GoT, where Plamuk is located, was approximately 4,944 MMBOE at the end of 2016, with the GoT accounting for 90.5% of total domestic production in Thailand.

Reserve Estimates

As of the end of 2016, the reserve estimates for the GoT, which includes the Plamuk field, were:

  • 6.60 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of natural gas
  • 122.7 million barrels of crude oil
  • 170.68 million barrels of oil equivalent of condensate.

Operators and Concessions

The Plamuk field is operated by PTTEP (PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited), which is a major player in Thailand's oil and gas sector. The concessions in the GoT are managed through various agreements involving PTTEP and other international companies like ExxonMobil.

Significance

The Plamuk field, along with other fields in the GoT, is crucial for Thailand's energy production. The Pattani Basin and the North Malay Basin, where Plamuk is located, account for 73.4% of the total production in the GoT and 68.6% of the total production in Thailand.
