Siakap North-Petai (SNP) Phase 2 Oil and Gas Field Profile

Location

The Siakap North-Petai (SNP) Phase 2 Oil and Gas Field is located offshore Sabah, Malaysia, specifically in Block G. The coordinates for the field are approximately 6.075, 114.343 (WGS 84).

Discovery and Development

  • The discoveries that comprise the Siakap North-Petai field were made in 2007 for Petai and 2009 for Siakap North. These discoveries were later unitised and developed as a single field.
  • The Final Investment Decision (FID) for the SNP Phase 2 was made in 2020, with production starting in 2021.

Operators and Ownership

  • The SNP Phase 2 field is operated by PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP).
  • The ownership structure includes:
    • PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP): 32.0%
    • PETRONAS: 26.0%
    • ConocoPhillips: 21.0%
    • Shell: 21.0%.

Production and Reserves

  • Production: The field began production in 2021. While specific production rates for Phase 2 alone are not detailed, the overall Siakap North-Petai project produces approximately 5.22 million barrels of oil per year and 49.2 million cubic meters of gas per year as of 2022.
  • Reserves: The remaining recoverable reserves for the entire Siakap North-Petai project are estimated at 14.36 million barrels of crude oil and condensate, and 573.98 million cubic meters of gas as of 2022.

Infrastructure and Facilities

  • The SNP field is developed with subsea infrastructure, including subsea production wells and water injection wells.
  • The production from the SNP field is tied back to the Kikeh Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, which is located approximately 8 miles southwest of the field. The Kikeh FPSO has a storage capacity of about 120,000 barrels of oil per day.
  • The subsea systems include rigid insulated pipe-in-pipe production flowlines, a rigid water injection flowline, and a main umbilical system connecting new manifolds and subsea distribution units to the existing riser slots in the Kikeh FPSO.

Contractors and Service Providers

  • McDermott was contracted to provide engineering, procurement, construction, installation, transportation, and commissioning of the subsea infrastructure. The work included providing the necessary flowlines, umbilicals, and connecting the new manifolds to the Kikeh FPSO.
  • Aker Solutions was awarded a contract to provide the subsea production system, including subsea trees, manifolds, and well jumpers, along with engineering for the topside controls and lifecycle support services.

Geology

  • The field is situated at a water depth of approximately 1,200 to 1,500 meters in the southern part of the South China Sea.
  • The seabed characteristics vary, with the southern half featuring a soft and rounded seabed, and the northern half containing high reliefs. Sediment samples show the presence of soft and greenish clay, with major constituents of silt and clay, and little amounts of fine sand.

Current Status

  • The Siakap North-Petai Phase 2 field is currently operating, contributing to the overall production of the Siakap North-Petai Oil and Gas Project.
