  • Latitude: 59.6000514
  • Longitude: 2.5840540

Location

The Skirne field, which includes the Byggve accumulation, is located in the central part of the North Sea, approximately 20 kilometres east of the Heimdal field.

Discovery and Development

  • The Skirne field was discovered in 1990.
  • The plan for development and operation (PDO) was approved in 2002.
  • The field was developed with two subsea templates tied to the Heimdal facility.

Production

  • Production from the Skirne field began in 2004.
  • In 2012, the Atla field was tied-back to Skirne, enhancing the production capabilities.

Reservoir and Geology

  • The Skirne and Byggve reservoirs produce gas and condensate from Middle Jurassic sandstone in the Brent Group.
  • The Skirne reservoir is located at a depth of 2370 metres, while the Byggve reservoir is at a depth of 2900 metres.
  • The reservoir quality is described as good.

Recovery Strategy

  • The field was produced using a pressure depletion strategy.

Transport and Processing

  • The well stream from Skirne was transported via a pipeline to the Heimdal facility for processing.
  • Gas from Heimdal was then transported through the Vesterled pipeline to the St Fergus terminal in the UK. Previously, gas was also sent through Statpipe to continental Europe.
  • Condensate was transported to the Brae field in the UK sector and further via the Forties pipeline system to Cruden Bay in the UK.

Status

  • The Skirne field was shut down in June 2023, and decommissioning is currently ongoing.

Water Depth and General Information

  • The water depth at the Skirne field is 120 metres.
