Snoek
- Type: Rig
- field
- Latitude: 8.0330000
- Longitude: -56.8770000
Discovery and Location
- The Snoek discovery was announced in March 2017 and is ExxonMobil’s third oil discovery in the Stabroek Block.
- The Snoek-1 well is situated approximately 9 kilometers southeast of the Liza-1 discovery.
Drilling and Reservoir Details
- The Snoek-1 well was drilled to a total depth of 16,978 feet (5,175 meters) in water depths of 5,128 feet (1,563 meters).
- The well encountered 82 feet (25 meters) of high-quality, oil-bearing sandstone reservoirs.
Geology
- The oil-bearing sandstones are of Maastrichtian-Aptian age, similar to other discoveries in the Stabroek Block.
Project Development
- While the initial discovery was significant, the Snoek field is now part of a larger development plan. Specifically, it will be developed as part of the Uaru project, which combines the resources from the Snoek, Mako, and Uaru fields.
Uaru Project Integration
- The Uaru project, for which a final investment decision was made on April 27, 2023, involves the development of these three fields using a single FPSO vessel named "Errea Wittu".
- The FPSO will be deployed approximately 200 kilometers offshore Guyana at a water depth of 1,690 meters and will have a production capacity of approximately 250,000 barrels of oil per day.
Infrastructure and Operations
- The Uaru FPSO will include associated gas treatment capacity of 540 million cubic feet per day, water injection capacity of 350,000 barrels per day, and produced water capacity of 300,000 barrels per day.
- MODEC will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of the FPSO, as well as providing operations and maintenance services for 10 years from the start of production.
Partners and Interests
- The Stabroek Block, where the Snoek field is located, is operated by ExxonMobil with a 45% interest. Hess Guyana Exploration Ltd. holds a 30% interest, and CNOOC Nexen Petroleum Guyana Ltd. holds a 25% interest.
Production and Outlook
- The combined development of the Snoek, Mako, and Uaru fields under the Uaru project is expected to produce crude oil for at least 20 years, starting late 2026 or early 2027.
- The project underscores the significant oil and gas potential of the Stabroek Block, with gross recoverable resources estimated to be nearly 11 billion oil equivalent barrels across various discoveries in the block.
