South Pars Phases 9 and 10 Project Profile
Location
The South Pars Phases 9 and 10 project is located in the Persian Gulf, approximately 270 kilometers southeast of the Bushehr province, along the southern coast of Iran, specifically in the Assaluyeh area.
Field Overview
The South Pars/North Dome field is the world's largest natural gas field, and Phases 9 and 10 are part of this vast gas-condensate field. These phases are situated in shallow water with a water depth of about 65 meters.
Development and Operation
- Developer: Phases 9 and 10 were developed by a joint venture involving GS of South Korea, Oil Industries Engineering and Construction Company (OIEC Group), and Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC). The share of Iranian players in this contract exceeds 60%.
- Operator: The project is operated by Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC).
Production Capacity
- Natural Gas: These phases produce approximately 2 billion cubic feet (57 million cubic meters) of natural gas per day, or around 50 million standard cubic meters per day (MMscm/d).
- Condensate: The daily production includes 80,000 barrels (13,000 cubic meters) of gas condensate.
- Ethane: The phases produce about 75 million cubic feet (2.1 million cubic meters) of ethane per day.
- LPG and Sulfur: Additionally, the project yields 3,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and 400 tons of sulfur per day.
Project Scope
- Well Drilling: The project involved drilling wells to access the gas reserves.
- Offshore Platforms: Construction of offshore platforms was necessary to facilitate the extraction and processing of the gas.
- Sub-Sea Pipelines: Two 32-inch sub-sea gas pipelines were laid to transport the gas from the offshore platforms to the coast.
- Onshore Facilities: Onshore gas sweetening and treatment facilities, as well as utilities, were developed to process the extracted gas.
Completion and Inauguration
- The project was completed and inaugurated by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in March 2009.
Management and Consultancy
- Management consultancy services for the project were provided by Hirbodan and Aker Kvaerner companies.
