Spruance (EW921) - LLOG Exploration Offshore Oil and Gas Field Profile
Location
The Spruance Field is located in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, specifically within Ewing Bank (EW) blocks 877 and 921. The field is situated at a water depth of approximately 1,572 feet (478 meters).
Coordinates
The exact coordinates of the field are 28.0855, -90.006 (WGS 84).
Operator and Ownership
LLOG Exploration Co. LLC is the operator of the Spruance Field, holding a 22.64% working interest. The other partners include:
- Ridgewood Energy: 23.89%
- EnVen (now referred to as Talos in some sources): 13.5%
- Beacon Asset Holdings: 11.61%
- Houston Energy: 11.2%
- Red Willow: 11.15%
- CL&F: 6%.
Discovery and Development
The Spruance Field was discovered in mid-2019 through the EW 877 #1 well, a subsalt exploratory well drilled to a total depth of 17,000 feet. This well encountered approximately 150 net feet of oil pay in multiple high-quality Miocene sands. A second well, EW 921 #1, was drilled in early October 2020 to a total depth of 16,600 feet, successfully delineating the main field pays and logging additional oil pay, totaling over 200 net feet of oil.
Production
Production at the Spruance Field commenced in June 2022, less than three years after the initial discovery. The field is developed through a two-well subsea development connected to the EnVen-operated Lobster platform via a 14-mile (22.5 km) subsea tieback. The field produces approximately:
- 16,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd)
- 13 million cubic feet per day (Mmcfd) of gas.
Reserves and Production Data
As of 2023, the field's hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 44 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe).
- Oil Production: 3.62 million barrels per year (2022 data).
- Gas Production: 82.91 million cubic meters per year (2022 data).
Production Handling and Infrastructure
The production from the Spruance Field is tied back to the Lobster platform, which is operated by EnVen and located in Ewing Bank 873 (EW873) at a water depth of 775 feet. The platform is approximately 209 km south of New Orleans.
Contractors and Suppliers
Trendsetter Engineering was contracted to supply a subsea manifold and the Trendsetter Connection System (TCS) for the project. Additionally, production valves were provided by Advanced Technology Valve.
Production Outlook
Based on economic assumptions, the field is expected to recover 8.53% of its total recoverable reserves by 2024, with peak production anticipated in the same year. Production is projected to continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2073.
