Su Tu Trang 1 Oil and Gas Phase (Vietnam)

Location

The Su Tu Trang 1 Oil and Gas Phase is located in Block 15-1 of the Cuu Long Basin, offshore Vietnam. Specifically, it is situated about 62 km from Vung Tau city and 6 kilometers southeast of the Su Tu Den field.

Coordinates

The exact coordinates for the Su Tu Trang 1 Oil and Gas Phase are 10.1468, 108.4259 (WGS 84).

Project Details

  • Status: Operating
  • Operator: Cuu Long Joint Operating Company (CLJOC)
  • Owners:
    • PetroVietnam (50.0%)
    • Perenco (23.25%)
    • Korea National Oil Corporation (14.25%)
    • SK Innovation (9.0%)
    • Geopetrol International Inc. (3.5%)
  • Discovery Year: 2003
  • Production Start Year: 2012.

Infrastructure

The Su Tu Trang 1 field utilizes a wellhead platform that includes a 1,400t topside, a 1,200t jacket, and 1,000t of jacket pile. The output from the field is transported through a 19.5 km, 12-inch subsea pipeline to the existing Su Tu Vang Central Processing Platform.

Production and Reserves

  • Gas Production: Approximately 1,550.33 million cubic meters per year (or about 45 million cubic feet per day).
  • Condensate Production: About 2.56 million barrels per year (or roughly 7,000 barrels per day).
  • Gas Reserves: 20 billion cubic meters (bcm).

Contractors and Development

The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the Su Tu Trang gas field development was awarded to PTSC Mechanical & Construction (PTSC M&C), a subsidiary of PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation. Other contractors involved include Nippon Steel Engineering for detailed design and offshore transportation and installation works, and Ansell Jones for mechanical handling equipment supply.

Transportation and Market

The gas produced from the Su Tu Trang 1 field is transported via the Bach Ho pipeline system to the Phu My Gas Distribution Center, primarily serving power, fertilizer, and other industrial customers in southern Vietnam.

Economic and Market Context

The production from Su Tu Trang 1 is significant for the regional market, particularly for condensate supply. With the absence of Iran's South Pars condensate due to international sanctions, Vietnam's condensate output is seen as a valuable addition to the supply streams in Asia, especially for South Korean refiners and petrochemical companies.

Additional Context

  • The Su Tu Trang complex, which includes Su Tu Trang 1, Su Tu Trang 2, and Su Tu Trang 2b, is part of a larger development in Block 15-1, along with other fields such as Su Tu Den, Su Tu Vang, and Su Tu Nau.
  • The total estimated recoverable reserves for all fields in Block 15-1 are approximately 621 million barrels.
