Tordis Oil Field Profile

Location and Geology

• The Tordis Oil Field is located in the Tampen area of the northern part of the North Sea, between the Snorre and Gullfaks fields.
• The field is situated in block 34/7 (Production License 089), with water depths ranging from 150 to 220 meters.

Discovery and Development

• The Tordis Oil Field was discovered in 1987 by Well 34/712, with subsequent wells confirming the presence of oil in the Brent sandstones.
• Development permission was granted in 1991, and the first oil production began in 1994.

Reservoirs

• The reservoirs in the Tordis field consist of Middle Jurassic sandstones of the Brent Group, Upper Jurassic sandstones in the intra-Draupne Formation for the Borg reservoir, and Late Jurassic age sandstones for other segments.
• The reservoirs are at depths of 2,000 to 2,500 meters and have good to excellent reservoir quality.

Production and Infrastructure

• The field is developed using a subsea production system with seven individual subsea wells connected to a central subsea manifold. This manifold is tied back to the Gullfaks C platform for processing, water injection, and control of production.
• The system includes satellite well systems, an integrated subsea manifold for combined production and water injection, subsea control and monitoring systems, and flow lines and umbilicals. All equipment is designed for remote installation and maintenance without diver involvement.
• In 2007, a subsea separation system was installed to enhance oil recovery. This system, provided by FMC Kongsberg Subsea, is capable of handling 200,000 barrels per day of liquids and injecting 150,000 barrels per day of water, along with disposing of sand production.

Production Volumes and Recovery

• As of 2012, the production volumes were approximately 14,000 barrels of oil per day, 0.07 billion cubic meters of gas, and 0.03 million tonnes of Natural Gas Liquids (NGL).
• The field's original estimated reserves include 61.5 million cubic meters of oil, 4.7 billion cubic meters of gas, and 1.8 million tonnes of NGL.
• The subsea separation system aimed to increase oil recovery from 49% to 55%, adding an estimated 35 million barrels of oil, with 19 million barrels attributed to the subsea separation technology.

Ownership and Operation

• The field is currently operated by Equinor Energy (formerly Statoil), with partners including Eni, Harbour Energy, HitecVision, Idemitsu Kosan, Inpex, and Petoro.

Production Status and Future Plans

• Production from Tordis has been maintained through pressure support from water injection and natural aquifer drive. The field has recovered 96.58% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production in 2001. Production is expected to continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2030.
• Recent activities include the use of 4D seismic data acquired in 2021 for reservoir management and planning new infill drilling targets. Production increased in 2023 due to better production from new wells and increased production efficiency.

Transportation

• The well stream from Tordis is transported via two pipelines to the Gullfaks C facility for processing. The oil is exported by tankers, while the gas is exported via the Gassled A pipeline to the Kårstø terminal.
