  • field
  • Latitude: 25.5639089
  • Longitude: 55.4466292

Location and Geography

The Umm Al Qaiwain conventional gas field is located offshore, approximately 40 kilometres northeast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is situated in shallow water, at a depth of around 30 metres.

Ownership and Operation

The Umm Al Qaiwain gas field is owned by a consortium that includes Arawak Energy International, Maxim Resources, and Quest Investments. The field is operated by UAQ Petroleum Ltd.

Discovery and Production History

The Umm Al Qaiwain field was discovered in the 1970s but remained undeveloped for many years. Production commenced in the second quarter of 2008, following a two-year development phase. The field peaked at around 70 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of sales gas.

Production Status

As of recent reports, the Umm Al Qaiwain gas field has ceased production. A Plug and Abandonment program has been completed, marking the end of the field's operational life.

Reserves and Production Profile

The field had recovered 76.51% of its total recoverable reserves by the time production peaked in 2011. Based on economic assumptions, it was initially expected that production would continue until the field reached its economic limit in 2041, but this timeline has been shortened due to the cessation of production.

Geology and Field Characteristics

The Umm Al Qaiwain field lies on trend with the Zora gas field, located about 10 kilometres to the west. The field's geology and well data are detailed in reports that include tables and charts on reserves, resources, and production profiles.

Infrastructure and Development

The development of the field involved a two-year phase before production began in 2008. The infrastructure includes wells and associated facilities necessary for gas production and processing. However, with the completion of the Plug and Abandonment program, these facilities are no longer in operation.

Economic and Fiscal Aspects

The economic analysis of the Umm Al Qaiwain field includes considerations of capital costs, sales contracts, royalty, income tax, and depreciation. The field's economic performance was evaluated based on cash flow, discount rates, inflation rates, and commodity prices. However, these economic analyses are now historical given the cessation of production.

In summary, the Umm Al Qaiwain conventional gas field, once a significant gas-producing asset in the UAE, has now ceased production and undergone the necessary abandonment procedures. Its history reflects a complex development and operational phase, with detailed economic and technical analyses that were crucial during its active years.
