- Longitude: 112.8290000
Location
The West Patricia field is located approximately 40 kilometers offshore Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia, in a water depth of 130 feet.
Operator and Partners
Murphy Sarawak, a subsidiary of Murphy Oil Corporation, is the operator of the block and holds an 85% interest. The remaining 15% interest is held by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd., the production arm of the state-owned PETRONAS.
Production
The West Patricia field commenced production in 2003. The initial development phase includes a single production platform and a Floating Storage and Off-loading (FSO) facility. The field is expected to quickly ramp up to an initial gross production of 15,000 barrels of oil per day. The crude oil produced from this field is marketed under the name "Kidurong crude oil".
Development Phases
The development of the West Patricia field is planned in multiple phases. The initial phase involves the single production platform and the FSO facility. Later phases will include the installation of additional production platforms and the drilling of more development wells, aiming to tap the full potential of the field and surrounding acreage.
Project Execution
The project was notable for coming onstream according to schedule and within budget, just 16 months following project sanction. This set a new benchmark in Malaysia for both timing and costs. The design and fabrication of key facilities were carried out at Malaysian sites, with 82% of the total field contracts being placed with Malaysian companies.
Significance
The West Patricia field's development marks a significant milestone for Murphy Oil Corporation in Malaysia, reflecting the company's vision since its entry into the country in 1999. The project demonstrates the potential for developing small fields in Malaysia and serves as a centralized hub for further development of surrounding fields.
