Vessel Description

The UKD Orca is a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) operated by UK Dredging Ltd (UKD), a subsidiary of Dutch marine contractor Van Oord. Built in 2010 by Royal IHC in the Netherlands, the vessel is one of the more capable dredgers operating in UK waters.

With a hopper capacity of approximately 5,500 m³, the UKD Orca is suited to both maintenance dredging and capital dredging projects across UK ports, estuaries, and coastal infrastructure schemes. The vessel operates primarily in UK coastal and estuarial waters, supporting the navigability of commercial ports and waterways.

As a trailing suction hopper dredger, the vessel draws material from the seabed through drag-arm suction pipes while underway, depositing the dredged material into its onboard hopper. Spoil can then be transported and disposed of at designated offshore dump sites or used for beach nourishment and land reclamation projects.

The vessel is registered under the UK flag and is subject to the regulatory oversight of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

Note: Some technical specifications may vary. Users should verify critical operational data against official Lloyd's Register, IMO records, or vessel operator documentation.
