Vessel Description
ORP Iskra (Iskra meaning "Spark" in Polish) is a barquentine-rigged sail training vessel operated by the Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia. She serves as the primary offshore sail training platform for officer cadets of the Polish Navy, providing seamanship, navigation, and leadership development under both sail and auxiliary power.
Built in 1982 at the Gdansk Shipyard, she is the second Polish naval vessel to bear the name Iskra, continuing a long tradition of Polish naval sail training. The vessel is a three-masted barquentine, with square sails on the foremast and fore-and-aft sails on the main and mizzen masts.
ORP Iskra is a regular participant in international tall ship races and regattas, including events organized by Sail Training International, and has sailed extensively across European waters, the North Atlantic, and beyond. She is widely recognized as an ambassador of Polish naval tradition and maritime heritage on the international tall ship circuit.
