Vessel Description

ALGOCANADA is a Canadian-flagged self-unloading bulk carrier owned and operated by Algoma Central Corporation, one of Canada's premier domestic shipping companies. Built in 2007 at Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai, China, the vessel is purpose-built for the demanding conditions of the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence Seaway trade route.

As a self-unloader, ALGOCANADA is equipped with a conveyor belt system and boom that allows the vessel to discharge bulk cargo independently without requiring shoreside unloading infrastructure. This capability makes her well suited for carrying commodities such as:

  • Iron ore and steel products
  • Aggregates and limestone
  • Coal
  • Grain and other dry bulk cargoes

The vessel reflects Algoma Central's strategy of modernizing its fleet to meet both Canadian regulatory standards and the operational demands of freshwater bulk shipping. ALGOCANADA operates under Transport Canada oversight and adheres to all applicable SOLAS, MARPOL, and Canadian Shipping Act requirements.
