Vessel Description

Sir Wilfrid Laurier is a medium icebreaker and buoy tender operated by the Canadian Coast Guard. The vessel performs a wide range of critical maritime services including aids to navigation servicing, buoy deployment and maintenance, icebreaking operations, search and rescue support, and scientific research support in Arctic and sub-Arctic waters. The ship is capable of operating in first-year ice and conducts annual deployments to the Canadian Arctic in support of sovereignty, resupply, and scientific missions. Named after Canada's seventh Prime Minister, the vessel has been a key asset in the CCG Pacific fleet since entering service in 1986 and has participated in numerous high-profile Arctic expeditions, including survey work related to the search for Franklin Expedition wrecks.
