Vessel Description

CG George Cobb is a 225-foot inland buoy tender (WLI) operated by the United States Coast Guard. The vessel is designed for aids-to-navigation (ATON) work on inland river systems, including the placement, servicing, and removal of navigational buoys and markers. The ship features a large forward work deck equipped with a buoy crane capable of handling heavy navigational aids. The diesel-electric propulsion system combined with azimuthing Z-drive thrusters provides exceptional maneuverability in confined river channels and strong current environments. The vessel also supports ice-breaking operations during winter months on the river systems within its area of responsibility. As one of the Coast Guard's inland tender fleet, the George Cobb plays a critical role in maintaining safe commercial and recreational navigation on the inland waterway network of the central United States.
