Vessel Description
American Triumph is a self-unloading bulk carrier operating within the United States Great Lakes system under the flag of the United States. Built in 1980 by the American Ship Building Company in Lorain, Ohio, the vessel is part of the American Steamship Company fleet, one of the principal carriers of bulk commodities on the Great Lakes. As a self-unloader, the vessel is equipped with an onboard conveyor and boom discharge system, allowing it to offload bulk cargo without the need for shore-based unloading equipment. The vessel is powered by a steam turbine plant, which was the conventional propulsion technology for Great Lakes bulk carriers of its era. American Triumph operates exclusively in the domestic Great Lakes trade in compliance with the Merchant Marine Act of 1920 (Jones Act), which requires that cargo transported between U.S. ports be carried on U.S.-flagged, U.S.-built, and U.S.-crewed vessels.
