Vessel Description
The Cathlamet is a double-ended passenger and vehicle ferry operated by Washington State Ferries as part of its Issaquah class of vessels. Built in 1981, she is one of several sister ships in the Issaquah-class fleet, designed specifically for the sheltered inland waters of Puget Sound. The vessel features a double-ended configuration, allowing the ferry to load and unload vehicles from both bow and stern without the need to turn around, significantly improving operational efficiency at ferry terminals. Named after the Cathlamet people, a Chinookan-speaking Native American group of the Pacific Northwest, the vessel has served the region for decades providing essential transportation links between communities across Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands.
