Vessel Description

ESSAYONS is a hopper dredge owned and operated by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, assigned to the Portland District. The vessel is one of the larger hopper dredges in the USACE fleet and plays a critical role in maintaining navigable waterways along the Pacific Coast of the United States. Her primary mission involves the removal of sediment from federal navigation channels, particularly along the Columbia River Bar and the Columbia and Willamette River systems, ensuring safe passage for commercial and military vessel traffic. The vessel is capable of self-loading through drag arms and self-unloading through a bottom dump or pump-out system. ESSAYONS has served the USACE for decades and represents a vital asset in the agency's dredging and waterway maintenance operations. The vessel is named in honor of the motto of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, a French phrase meaning "Let Us Try."
