Vessel Description
The Washington Chambers is a hopper dredge owned and operated by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Constructed at Marinette Marine Corporation in Wisconsin and delivered in 2012, she represents one of the more modern vessels in the USACE dredging fleet. As a trailing suction hopper dredge, she is designed to excavate sediment from the beds of waterways, harbors, and channels, loading the dredged material into her onboard hopper for transport and disposal. She plays a critical role in maintaining the navigability of federal waterways along the US East Coast, supporting commerce, navigation safety, and coastal infrastructure. The vessel operates under the authority of the USACE Philadelphia District and is a key asset in the agency's ongoing channel maintenance program.
