Vessel Description
The Elk River is an inland river towboat operating within the United States inland waterway system under the flag and regulatory oversight of the United States Coast Guard. Built in 2011 by Horizon Shipbuilding in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, the vessel is purpose-designed for pushing and towing barge tows along the major river systems of the central and eastern United States. Operating under Ingram Barge Company, one of the largest inland barge transportation companies in the United States, the Elk River supports the movement of bulk commodities including grain, coal, aggregates, and liquid cargoes. The vessel is equipped and certified to meet USCG Subchapter M towboat inspection standards applicable to commercial inland towing vessels.
