Vessel Description

Svitzer Myall is an Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) harbour tug operated by Svitzer Australia, a subsidiary of the global towage and marine services company Svitzer, which is part of the A.P. Møller-Mærsk Group.

Built in 2005 by Cheoy Lee Shipyards in China, the vessel is designed for harbour towage, escort, and berthing/unberthing assistance operations. The ASD configuration provides excellent manoeuvrability, allowing the tug to push or pull from any direction without repositioning — a critical capability in confined port environments.

The vessel is primarily deployed in Newcastle, New South Wales, one of Australia's busiest coal export ports, where she assists with the safe transit of bulk carriers and other large vessels through the harbour and to berth. She operates under the Australian flag and complies with Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) regulations.
