Vessel Description

The SKIKDA is an Algerian-flagged LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) carrier owned and operated by SONATRACH, Algeria's state-owned national hydrocarbon company. Built in 2007 by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, the vessel is named after the major Algerian port city and LNG export hub of Skikda, located on Algeria's northeastern Mediterranean coast.

As a membrane-type LNG tanker, the vessel is equipped with insulated cargo containment tanks designed to carry LNG at cryogenic temperatures of approximately -163°C. The ship operates primarily in support of Algeria's LNG export program, transporting liquefied natural gas from Algerian liquefaction terminals — principally at Skikda and Arzew/Bethioua — to receiving terminals across Europe and the broader Atlantic basin.

The vessel's steam turbine propulsion system is characteristic of LNG carriers of its generation, utilizing boil-off gas from the LNG cargo as a supplementary fuel source. The MMSI prefix 605 confirms Algerian flag registration, consistent with its operation under the SONATRACH fleet.
